Survey: Cleaning Professionals Address Mopping Trends
A recent study found that 97 percent of building service contractors and others involved in the professional cleaning industry are aware that "using mops and buckets can spread soils."
Respondents of the March 2012 survey, conducted by Kaivac, Inc., indicated that the most common type of hard surface flooring they clean is vinyl composite tile (VOC), at 67 percent. This was followed by terrazzo flooring, at about 20 percent. Respondents also stated they believe these types of floors are the easiest to clean, although cement floors were also considered an easy floor to maintain.
Asked what they like most about using mops and buckets to clean floors, more than a third answered, "It's all I have ever used." However, 27 percent said they prefer using mops and buckets because they are fast; the remainder believed mops and buckets are easier or more effective than other floor cleaning systems.
Asked what they like least about mopping floors, nearly half of the respondents indicated that "the mop and solution gets dirty pretty fast and have to be changed frequently."
"This question also allowed the respondents to write in other reasons they dislike using a mop and bucket," says Matt Morrison, Communications Manager for Kaivac. "We got all kinds of answers, such as ‘nothing like moving dirt from one area to another'; ‘it's a soil dispersal system'; to, very simply, ‘it cleans the area badly.'"
While many respondents expressed concerns regarding using mops and buckets to clean floors, nearly 70 percent also indicated that hard surface floor care is easier overall than carpet care.
"Along with this, nearly 58 percent said they are seeing more hard surface floors installed today than carpets," added Morrison. "This is in line with what other reports indicate."

BBQ Smokes out clothing store
There’s nothing quite like the smell of smoky grilled goodness (with a hint of mesquite) dancing in the wind to remind us of long summer days and backyard gatherings of children, friends, and neighbors. Barbeques remind us of happy times, of comfort and community. Many of us enjoy the smell of a juicy burger, cooked to perfection, over sizzling flames. But as with most things in our lives, there is a time and a place for everything; and sometimes those may be more limited than we think.
Imagine smelling freshly baked bread (a smell most would agree to adore) in the middle of a vast open prairie. It just wouldn’t be right; not to mention that a good deal of people may even be disappointed when the clean, fresh air they were hoping to take in was somehow missing. We may not notice a lack of smell per se, but we certainly notice the presence of a ‘wrong’ smell, even if the wrong smell is actually a good one.
This is exactly the situation that the owners of a Chicago clothing boutique recently found themselves in. The boutique, you see, was located next to a barbeque restaurant, and rather than smelling sunshine and summer, customers smelled ash and sauce, a decidedly unclothes-like smell. And given fabric’s natural propensity to absorb odors, the store’s merchandise retained the odors even after bringing it home. Customers started returning clothing and even stopped coming into the store altogether.
The BBQ restaurant did try to help by raising their smokestacks and installing a pricey exhaust system. But it wasn’t enough, and the store was forced to permanently close its doors for business.

Focus On Cleaners & Disinfectants
Commercial cleaning almost always requires the use of cleaners and disinfectants — the former on any surfaces that need to be regularly cleaned, and the latter on surfaces that are common touch points or are in specific types of facilities such as hospitals and schools.

Blood stains on fabrics
Blood stains on fabrics
As soon as possible soak the spot in COLD water, do not use warm or hot water, it will set the stain. For stubborn blood stains, apply a paste of meat tenderizer crystals, leave for about an hour and rinse with cold water. For really nasty blood stains use Hydrogen Peroxide, which is the main ingredient used in commercial blood stain cleaners.
